I started studying natural horsemanship in 1997, after I bought a 3-year old Arabian I wanted to start under saddle using "natural" methods. I went to clinics by many of the top professional natural horseman. I chose to study Parelli because Pat had the most comprehensive material at the time and I knew I could accelerate my learning experience. My journey took me to Pat’s ranch, where I spent 1-year, immersing myself in the study of natural horsemanship.
I worked as a Licensed Parelli Instructor for 4-years. I still teach the “skeleton” of the Parelli system, as well as other natural horsemanship techniques and concepts. Presently, I study classical dressage with a master horseman, who studied extensively with Portuguese dressage Master Nuno Oliviera.
It really doesn't matter what type of saddle your horse wears. Good horsemanship is just that - good horsemanship. Natural horsemanship creates a strong foundation of positive habits, whether you are a trail rider or an english/western performance rider. For most people, riding comprises a small percentage of the time they spend with their horse. Natural horsemanship focuses on all aspects of horse ownership, so the human can truly learn to become a HORSEMAN.
If you understand the way horses feel, think and act and you are perceived as a partner and not a predator, you will begin to get extraordinary results. If you can learn to become the human your horse deserves, then your horse will become the horse you’ve always dreamed of – it’s that simple.
